About This Game
SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS NSP ROM is an adventure game that offers a unique gameplay experience, combining classic and modern Sonic. This novel blend of two different styles is a must-have for fans of the legendary series.
If the open world of Sonic Frontiers didn’t win you over, Sonic X Shadow Generations is a modern Sonic game worth trying. Before I begin, I should mention that my knowledge of the Sonic series is limited. I have nothing against Sonic; as a content creator specializing in publishing, I’ve seen all the Sonic movies and TV shows and played many games in the franchise over the years. In short, I was primarily a Mario fan. However, I recently had the opportunity to try some levels of the PS5 version of Sonic X Shadow Generations; this version combines levels from both games, and even more than a week later, I’m eager to play it again.
New Features
These new features are exciting and undoubtedly the highlight of Sonic X: Shadow Generations. I played two levels, Space Colony Ark from Sonic Adventure 2 and Kingdom Valley from Sonic ’06, and faced two bosses, Biolizard and Metal Overlord, with Dark Sonic. His unique power, Chaos Control, allows him to freeze time, giving him more time to dodge attacks and even temporarily transform projectiles into platforms when he charges at his target.
Shadow can launch powerful ranged attacks or glide across water at high speed with other abilities like Destiny Spear and Destiny Surf. Additional abilities, such as Destiny Blast, Transformation, and Wings, are unlocked later in the game. The levels are beautifully designed and even surpass Sonic’s in terms of speed and power.
Bonus Content and Improved Design
Having played many video games, both modern and classic, as I grew up, I was excited to see my favorite levels redesigned and reimagined with the release of Sonic Generations. However, Shadow Generations is undoubtedly an original game. Shadow takes on the role of the main protagonist as a completely new character, alongside an existing one. My experience encompassed two levels: the “Space Colony” story mode from Sonic Adventure 2 (which I completed quickly) and Radical Highway, also from the same game. In the latter, I faced the Biological Lizard, the final boss of Sonic Adventure 2’s story. These levels are entirely new and different from those in the original Sonic games.
It can freeze time to simplify combat and platforming sections, use Chaos Control instead of smashing his opponents, and even throw Chaos Spears for ranged attacks. At some point, Shadow is expected to have his own central area to explore, similar to the empty space in the original game. Sonic X: Shadow Generations expands on this concept, offering plenty of additional content along with the gameplay mechanics and graphical improvements expected of a proper remake.
