About This Game
Mario Golf: Super Rush NSP ROM is a multiplayer sports game that can be played on Switch or TV for two players in split-screen mode and on a classic turn-based golf mode for four players.
Mario Golf: Super Rush lives up to its name. The gameplay is unique, and speed is as important as accuracy. This breakneck pace is reflected in its design: each mode is designed to be completed quickly, rather than savoured at a leisurely pace. Unfortunately, the term “super” doesn’t do it justice.
Mario and his friends haven’t stepped onto the greens in a while, but Mario Golf: Super Rush will bring back fond memories for those who have played arcade golf games like Everybody’s Golf in recent years. However, this Mario Golf adventure does not reach its full potential: it is neither a challenging sports game nor a quick and easy fun to share with friends.
Game Story
After choosing our Mii, our character, we find ourselves at the heart of a prestigious golf academy. The goal of both the academy and our character is to progress through various courses and tournaments to become the best golfer in the Mushroom Kingdom. Three talented rivals join us, especially at the beginning of the adventure. However, their presence fades after a few hours of gameplay.
After this initial phase, the story turns to action, and the game returns to focusing on golf. After a few more hours, the story returns and introduces us to the real heroes of the adventure: Wallugi and Wario. Their goal is clear: to find a great treasure located, according to legend, on the top of a high, snow-capped mountain. This important historical moment will keep us on the edge of our seats and guide us through a series of challenges and boss battles as we progress through official competitions to earn our golf license.
Gameplay
Now, let’s get down to business. Remember, this is an arcade golf game; don’t expect a simulation. First, I want to highlight that the game includes a comprehensive tutorial that explains the practical aspects and mechanics of the game, as well as the basic rules of golf. If you are a beginner, I recommend that you give it a try. Now, let me explain the basic rules of golf and the game. A golf course has 18 holes.
This number represents the approximate number of strokes a player will need to complete the hole. Let’s look at an example to better understand this: On a par 3, if you hit the ball in 3 strokes, you are par and your score drops to 0. However, if you finish the hole in 2 strokes, your score is -1, and if you finish it in 4 strokes, it is +1. As you can imagine, in golf, the player who takes the fewest strokes wins. Mario Golf uses this basic principle to structure the entire game.
