About This Game
Sifu ROM, which was released last February on PlayStation and PC, quickly became popular due to its fast-paced gameplay and unique “old” mechanics. Nine months later, the fighting game Sloclap has returned to the Nintendo Switch in an improved version, retaining all the charm of the original. The game begins with players entering a rain-soaked temple, fighting students, and teaming up with friends to find more. Upon reaching the highest level, players find themselves playing as Yang, killing the princess of the temple in front of her. The young man, who was hiding in a closet, sees this and is then killed by one of Yang’s minions.
However, the charm in the young man makes him stand out. The young man, later known as “Hero,” becomes the game’s protagonist, embarking on a journey of revenge at the age of twenty. Sifu trusts players to complete five stages, defeat all the bosses, and ultimately find Yang. The game’s main character is a symbol that resurrects the protagonist as a child, granting the protagonist the ability to rise from the dead. But this technology comes at a price: with each death, you age by one year, and the death rate increases. So you start the game at the age of 20. Each death increases your death count, bringing you to 21. If you die again, your death count doubles, bringing you to 23.
While the combat system is excellent, what sets Sifu apart from other fighting games is its creative use of space. You can throw stunned enemies down stairs, obstacles, or even obstacles to instantly eliminate them; you can shoot weapons from the ground directly into an enemy’s face; the game also has a number of final space moves that incorporate space into your actions. This final move is not only incredibly cool, but it also provides great benefits, making some fights that initially seemed impossible later on.
I spent a lot of time exploring the rooms, looking for opportunities to use space in the space. You can block opponents by pressing the stop button before they hit, preventing your building from collapsing. But you have to plan and wait for the last moment of your opponent’s planned attack to stop their attack. Even if you block their first attack, they won’t be able to retaliate quickly enough if there are two more attacks later. Therefore, you need to block three attacks together to attack quickly. With the ability to predict and anticipate each enemy’s attack, one can block multiple attacks in a row.
