About This Game

Suika Game Special Edition NSP ROM is a multiplayer puzzle game where players combine two small fruits to form a giant watermelon. When two fruits touch, they merge and the next fruit forms in the growth circle. Once both have become large watermelons, they merge and disappear, freeing up space in your inventory to collect more fruits and increase your score. You can track your daily, monthly or overall score. The game is very simple. With an aesthetic reminiscent of 2048 and Puyo Puyo, it features a square board on which to place fruits. When they touch the double ball, the fruits merge.

Two strawberries make a grape, two grapes make a tangerine, etc. The game does not rely on any particular logic, other than the gradual growth of the fruits to their maximum size (Suika in Japanese). Earn points by placing fruit and try to survive as long as possible before the screen fills up completely. There is no time limit, no competitive mode (aside from the online leaderboard), and nothing special. The fruits fight each other, grow, and take over the game board. But Suika has a secret: physics.

Goal: To Get The Highest Score By Connecting And Merging Increasingly Large Fruits

The fruits interact with all the other pieces on the board, and the fun increases tenfold as they grow in size. While the initial setup, limited to a race to reach a pineapple, and involving minimal collisions, seems logical, the game becomes more complex as it expands in space. You will be pleasantly disappointed when you realize that the only obstacle to merging two peaches is a single strawberry that has squeezed itself into a crack, ruining your sweet smile and your day. The game’s charm and its small faces are probably a big reason for its success.

While there are countless budget puzzle games on the e-shop (and tens of thousands on various mobile platforms), this one has an undeniable charm without being overly so. The game offers a variety of bright and soft colors, textures, and shapes that will appeal to both children and adults. Pop music brightens your day as you move the fruits, and even making mistakes is no big deal. After all, if the fruit is happy, why shouldn’t you be? It’s a perfect example of the saying “everything has a price.”

Realistic Physics Cause The Fruits To Move And Bounce In Unpredictable Ways

However, the game’s movement system has a unique charm: each fruit sports a specific expression during its evolution, making it memorable and easily recognizable when playing other Suika games. As for the animation, there’s not much to say beyond a few cute facial expressions and some minor physics effects. But honestly, there’s not much to add. The strength of the Suika games’ visual style lies in their ability to offer different and appealing themes.

As I write this, the Halloween event, where the central watermelon turns into a giant pumpkin and the music changes completely, is coming to an end. It seems that these themes are seasonal and can’t be unlocked with points, which is a shame. However, like other games with different visual themes like Tetris and Puyo, I would have appreciated more variety in this regard, as it would have allowed the already enjoyable style to adapt to many different themes.
