About This Game
Yakuza Kiwami NSP ROM is a role-playing (RPG) game released in 2016 to celebrate the first game’s tenth anniversary and a complete remaster. It includes significant improvements. Instead of the original game’s cumbersome combat system, we find an experience more akin to the modern Yakuza 0, where Kiryu can use various fighting styles, obtain power-ups to increase his strength, and learn new moves. Kiryu’s brutal attacks, much like the criminal underworld, are simple and straightforward. While Kiryu’s three fighting styles (Fighter, Thrower, and Monster) are the same as in Yakuza 0, Kiwami doesn’t offer a detailed explanation of the differences between these styles or how best to use them.
Game Story — Yakuza Kiwami NSP ROM XCI
The story revolves around Kazuma Kiryu, a former yakuza member who is released from prison after ten years. The Yakuza series has always been characterized by a certain realism in its portrayal of gangs, although Kiryu is depicted with such high morals that it’s almost unbelievable. However, many of the fictional Tokyo residents who appear in the game are far from friendly. Yakuza is sometimes compared to the Grand Theft Auto series, but the only similarity lies in the criminal drama itself. Unlike most Western crime games, it emphasizes melee combat rather than carjacking or shootouts.
Gameplay — Yakuza Kiwami NSP ROM XCI
Its gameplay combines multiple styles. It features a dynamic, real-time combat system, often pitting you against multiple opponents simultaneously. You can choose from three difficulty levels, which is important since Yakuza Kiwami is a challenging game, and you can switch between them at any time. Kazuma can utilize several different fighting styles. These styles are tied to the control direction and feature unique combos, skill trees, and finishing moves. The default fighting style is well-balanced, effectively combining speed and strength. On the other hand, there’s the “Dash” style, which is extremely fast and agile but doesn’t allow moves like grabs. The third style is the “Beast” style—what a fantastic name!
This style offers incredibly powerful but much slower attacks, and Kazuma can use various objects from the environment as weapons. Finally, there’s the “Dragon” style. It references his nickname, the “Dragon of Dojima,” and the large dragon tattoo on his back, and it’s tied to a system called “Majima Everywhere.” We won’t go into detail here, but each style should be adapted to the enemy you’re facing. Some enemies are particularly resistant to certain attacks. The same goes for the leaders. Varying your strategy is crucial; otherwise, you’ll constantly face resistance and counterattacks.
