About This Game

Chrono Ark: Deluxe Edition NSP ROM, unlike traditional RPGs, is an adventure and puzzle game where everything resets with each defeat of your team, unlocking new companions and abilities. Improve your strategy with each playthrough.

At first glance, the story of Chrono Ark seems deceptively simple: activate the clock tower to save the world. But as you progress, the narrative reveals a complex world full of intrigue, loss, and mysterious forces that shaped the ark. It combines its past and the nature of the shadows of time, promoting exploration and investigation. The story unfolds gradually through character interactions, combat, and atmospheric storytelling. While some of the dialogue options are brief, the combination of context, character history, and worldbuilding provides enough depth to make each playthrough memorable.

Unlike more linear RPGs, Chrono Ark’s narrative unfolds alongside its roguelike structure, creating a sense of exploration that complements the game’s strategic depth. Chrono Ark’s most prominent feature is its card-based combat system. Each character’s abilities are represented by cards that must be played strategically to activate powerful abilities, defend, or attack. The complexity of strategy lies not only in card selection but also in energy management, positioning, and unique synergies between companions. Players can add up to four characters to a party, each with different skills and abilities. Regardless of your preferences (direct damage, status ailments, healing), party composition is crucial.

Customize Your Party With the Dynamic Ability Card System!

Companions are more than just tools. Their individual attributes can radically change your strategy, and experimenting with different combinations is essential to overcoming the game’s most difficult difficulties. The flexible card system allows players to upgrade, modify, or combine abilities as they progress. New cards and companions are unlocked with each defeat, ensuring new strategic possibilities with each playthrough. The system rewards careful planning, adaptation, and creativity, offering much more than a simple buy-and-sell mechanism. Chrono Ark fully embraces its roguelike nature. Unlike traditional RPGs where defeat can be frustrating, this game encourages perseverance.

New companions, cards, and synergies are unlocked with each playthrough. This approach prevents frustration and actively rewards effort. Progression in Chrono Ark is not linear. Rather, it is a cycle of trial, error, and mastery. Each dungeon adventure provides valuable information about enemy attack patterns, skill interactions, and team composition. While some may find the concept, with its multiple reboots, intimidating at first, it quickly becomes captivating, encouraging players to hone their strategies and improve their decks for each encounter. The opening scene creates a brooding atmosphere, which is easily overlooked if left unchecked. Humanity has suffered a planetary catastrophe, and Earth is rapidly becoming uninhabitable. Talented scientists from around the world gather to create Project Ark.

Unlock New Companions and Abilities With Each Playthrough!

A virtual world where human bodies are kept in cryostasis, awaiting their return to Earth’s habitability. But this supposed sanctuary has become a prison for those trapped inside. Meet Lucy, the Child of Prophecy; she will activate the Central Clock Tower and eliminate the evil that is afflicting the Ark. To do this, you’ll need the help of researchers and other inhabitants of the ark who have honed their skills to fight the enemies that stand in your way. I won’t reveal major plot points, as it’s best to play without knowing too much in advance, but the game is a triumph in the deck-building roguelite genre, a rare card game with such a rich story. In most games of this type, you die and start over.

Here, the idea is that “Chrono” is an integral part of the concept, intrinsically tied to the story. Its not the end goal, just a new time loop in your journey to save the ark. What impressed me most was how the game used this device to introduce surprises and changes in the overall objectives. The early stages can feel repetitive, and the plot can sometimes feel like it relies on some kind of deus ex machina, but I have to admire Chrono’s willingness to explore the philosophical questions surrounding the ark and this temporary refuge, as well as his non-linear narrative approach. I mentioned the diverse cast of characters, so let’s talk about that. Aside from Lucy herself, you can choose from 20 characters.
